Rhodes Scholarship

Rhodes Scholarships fund two years of post-baccalaureate study in any field at the University of Oxford. The scholarship includes tuition, fees, travel, and a stipend. Thirty-two American Rhodes Scholars are chosen annually from the United States.

Students from a range of countries besides the United States are also eligible to apply for the Rhodes Scholarship - please visit the Rhodes House site for an up-to-date list of eligible countries. Currently, citizens from the following countries are elgible for the Rhodes: Australia, Bermuda, Canada, China, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Jamaica & the Commonwealth Caribbean, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Southern Africa (including South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Swaziland), Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine (SJLP), United Arab Emirates, West Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Eligibility Requirements

For the American Rhodes Scholarship: applicants must be between the ages of 18-23 on October 1 of the year of application are eligible to apply, and US citizenship is necessary at the time of application. For all candidates: Academic merits, while not the only measure, are an important consideration for the Rhodes. Candidates should bear in the mind that average minimum GPA for admission to graduate programs at Oxford is 3.7. Candidates should carefully consider whether their academic merits would qualify them, at a minimum, for admission to their respective program(s) of choice at Oxford.

Application Process

Nomination by the UK/Ireland Scholarships Endorsement Committee is required of applicants who are current students or alumni of the College of the University of Chicago. Decisions made by the endorsement committee are final and non-negotiable.

International candidates for the Rhodes are strongly encouraged to also submit a campus application and proceed along the same timeline as formally endorsed candidates.

Materials submitted after the May 7, 2018 deadline will not be considered for university endorsement.
