Beinecke Campus Submission

In order to be nominated by the University of Chicago for the Beinecke Scholarship, students must submit campus application materials by Friday, January 5. Please direct any questions to Nicholas Morris (ncmorris@uchicago.edu).

Application Materials include:

  • A completed Application Form.
  • A current resume.
  • A personal statement of 1,000 words or less from the nominee describing his or her background, interests, plans for graduate study and career aspirations. The statement should include a discussion of some experiences and ideas that have shaped those interests, plans and aspirations.
  • Three letters of recommendation from faculty members that assess the nominee’s intellectual curiosity, character and potential for advanced graduate study -- sent to CCSA@uchicago.edu.
  • Transcripts (unofficial are OK).
  • Other material considered directly relevant to the nominee’s application (creative writing or arts related).

Are you applying for a graduate degree program in creative writing, studio art, film, music performance and/or theatre and dance?
Applicants planning to pursue a graduate degree (often an MFA or similar degree) in creative writing, studio art, film, music performance and/or theatre and dance are encouraged to consider submitting some or all of the following: >> A creative writing sample. >> A portfolio of their work in an electronic format (CD, DVD, etc.). >> An external evaluation of the work. >> Links to any online content directly relevant to the nominee’s work.
