IOU Respect International Exchange

Funds international program intended to promote cultural awareness and experience

Hostelling International (HI) USA is proud to sponsor the IOU Respect international exchange program.

IOU Respect is a two-week, intensive, cultural exchange program designed to increase the participants’ knowledge of other cultures, help them develop skills for intercultural communication and foster attitudes that promote mutual understanding and tolerance.

Since 2017 is an assessment year for the exchange program, applications are not currently being accepted. It is encouraged to sign up for the opportunity's mailing list to receive information about the future reopening of the application.

Deadline: Sunday, May 13, 2018

Responsibilities

During the program, participants from the six countries must engage in a mix of facilitated dialogue sessions (5+ sessions, 3-4 hours each), team-building project work and group

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • 18-23 years old
  • Fluent in English
  • Citizens of the US, Egypt, France, Germany, Lebanon or Tunisia with a current passport at the time of the program
  • Employees of HI USA and people who have previously participated in a Hostelling International exchange program are not eligible

Application Process

The application process for American candidates is as follows:

  • Complete a written application
  • Provide a reference
  • Complete a phone or web interview if selected as a top applicant
